Day 5 with Becca Feeken – Never Lose Your Recipes Journal

What a bang up week!! I’ve tried to create totally different things this week from cute to elegant, cards to 3-D projects which leads me to round out the offerings with my selection for today. My week wouldn’t be complete without offering a book. I’m a total book fanatic and have journals of many types – sketch journal, quotes journal, prayer journal, coloring journal, challenges journal, knitting journal, I could go on. Just when I thought I had it covered and there was no other kind of journal I could create – JustRite creates a Recipe Set with 9 Borders and Centers!

Ya know, I admire people who can keep up with a note card or recipe card…it’s a hopeless cause for me. I take the card out, and it never finds its way back. Bingo! Time for a Recipe Journal for me. It can live with my cook books and then when I go to find the recipe – it will be in the Recipe Journal where I can find it.

So, presenting…my new Recipe Journal.

There are 9 divider pages to correspond with the JustRite Recipe Set Borders and Centers.
Come with me while I show you the steps I took to make it.

As shown below, I pulled together the papers I wanted to use and cut them to the following dimensions:
-Nine double sided papers for dividers, cut 5.5” wide by 8.5” high (these are We R Memory Keeps – Grandma’s Kitchen Collection)
-Two pieces of chipboard for front and back cover, cut 7” wide by 8.75” high (mine is from the back of an art tablet.) I also needed design paper to cover the chipboard – 4 sides.
-A quantity of white cardstock, cut 5.5” wide by 8.5” high

As shown below, I adhered design paper to all four sides of the chipboard.
Using the same design papers as I set aside for my dividers and using Spellbinders Standard Circles Large, I cut 18 circles – 9 pairs. For nine of the circles I stamped them prior to cutting them out. For the tabs I manually spelled out the same words that are on the stamps in the JustRite Recipe Set and set them using the JustRite Times New Roman 50 point font and the JustRite Wood Stamper 2 3/8” Set.

I cut one additional circle to use later as a template and inside that circle I cut another hole with a 1 ½” punch.
Using the template, I traced a circle onto my stamped tab at the opposite end of the stamped words. I did that for all 9 tabs.

Holding the pair of tabs together I lined up the penciled outline of the small circle with the inside of my punch and punched.
Then as shown below, I took my punched tab and lined it up on my divider page and lightly traced a circle to show where I would ultimately place the windowed tab.



Next with the same 1 ½” punch I punched out the same area that I just traced.



Once the whole is punched, I was able to mount my windowed tab, as shown below.



Next, using the JustRite 1 3/16” Wood Mount and the JustRite Recipe Set, I stamped the recipe stamp that matched the stamped words on my tab. I stamped through the window onto the next blank page that occurs in the journal – see below. I did this for all 9 tabs



With covers done, pages cut and tabs applied to dividers, I put the book in order and bound it with my Bind-it-All

My last step was to add a Chipboard tag to the front of the journal. On the tag I stamped Recipe Journal.

What's Cooking at JustRite -New 1 3/16th" Wooden Stamper and Recipe Stamp Set

You asked and we listened!!! Today we are featuring the newest addition to our wooden stamper line - a 1 3/16" wooden mount to match our Luxe Stamper plus new stamp sets for this fun size!!

Now there are lots of great things about this smaller size stamper. The new designer centers of these sets can be punched with a 1 1/4" SU Punch. The center and border combined are the perfect size for punching with your 1 3/8" SU or EK Success Punch. You can also use the SU scallop circle punch to mat the image. Do you love altering bottle caps!! These images are the perfect size to fit inside a bottle cap.

Our Cookbooks are a work in progess but we couldn't wait to show you our new recipe stamps.

Our first stamp set for the 1 3/16" size is a recipe set. It comes with 9 centers, 7 designer borders and 2 half borders. Use a half border on the top of the stamper and use your 6 point font to design the bottom of your image.

Harvest Time

Today we thought it would be fun to show you great ideas for how to turn your canning projects into fabulous gifts for the Holiday's. Our first project is from the kitchen of Angela Barkhouse. Angela found this great Mom's Fruit Stand wooden box at the Christmas Tree Shop. It was perfect gift packaging for Angela's Homemade Apple Sauce and Apple Jelly. Angela used the border from the JB 08130 Baking Stamp Ensemble "Family Secret Recipes from Our House to Yours" and 50 pt Curlz Fnt to label the top of her jars. Angela made a coordinating tag for the handle of her box using the border "from the kitchen of"

She also used the Curlz Font to label the front of her jars to easily identify which jars of Applesauce which were made using Splenda for the diabetic members on her Christmas list.




For the top of the jars she chose a smaller Spellbinders Nestabilities Die and placed it on her label so that she could use yellow chalk to highlight the designer border of her jars.

This gave her label the warm vintage look of her box. This project would also be a great as a house warming gift for a fall party. So next Kellie Fortin designed a card that Angela could place her applesauce recipe in to share with the recipient.

The stamp is a two piece set from River city Rubber Works. The apples (1746-L "Apples, Large")are stamped and cut out and then inserted into the bushel basket (1749-N Bushel Basket, Large") giving the basket a truly 3-D effect. The apples were colored with Copic Markers. To color the bushel basket Kellie first chalked the entire basket and then added more color with Copic Markers. To design the sentiment for the front of the card Kellie used the Small JB 08110 Harmony Rectangular stamper with 25 point Curlz Font. Then she die cut the verbiage using a Spellbinders Label die. To make the image coordinate with Angela's project she placed the die back on the label and chalked the inside image with yellow chalk.

The card is designed so that the recipe fits inside a narrow pocket inside the card. Angela used the "from the Kitchen of " to decorate the recipe and used the 25 point Curlz font to stamp on her small Harmony Rectangular Stamper to add the word "applesauce" to the top of her recipe card. She used prismacolored pencils to color in the apple image.

Gifts from the Heart

It's day 4 with Michele Kovack and Michele has a great project to share with everyone !!
Michele has taken a non traditonal approach to a traditional event!!

The first project is a card I created to give at a bridal shower. I know I could have done a "traditional" type bridal card....but that is sooooo boring!

The whole idea of a bridal shower is to stock their house or other living quarters, whatever they may be, right? So I decided on the house from the Provo Craft Doodlecharms cartridge. The paper is Cosmo Cricket. I stamped the sentiment directly on the ticket using the JustRite Small Pre inked Words from the "Love" set. I added some pretty felt flowers threaded with buttons and floss to dress it up a bit.

In addtion to the card, I wanted to be able to give my favorite recipes to my very good friend. Recipes that are special and have been handed down to me. When I saw this SU! tin, I thought it would be a perfect fit for recipe cards! To dress up the outside of the box I used SU! paper as well as some vintage book paper. (Told you I had an obsession with these papers!)

The sentiment was stamped with the round JustRite, "From the Kitchen of" set. The little bread image is by Crafty Secrets, as well as the Salt and Pepper shakers. I added a SU! ribbon and buttons threaded with twine. Inside the box contains recipe cards. The card was an SU! stamp. I used my Harmony Rectangular Stamp and the Curlz font (50 pt) for the Festive Fudge title. Now when I give those pots and pans at the shower, I will have a cute card and recipes she can cook up right away!

More Questions and Answers

Welcome back to some more questions and answers. Today I am also going to give you a punch demonstration using The Paper Studio punches at Hobby Lobby or online at Crafts Etc. They are big and pink and look a lot like McGill punches. But first let's get to the two questions received yesterday.

Linda said....
Two more questions. How would you make a monogram if the last name is hyphenated? And what do you do when the last name has 2 parts like Van Something?

Answer: For an individual monogram with a hyphenated last name such as Diane Smith-Bradley you would do DBS. If you were doing a monogram for a couple you would use the man's last name. The monogram for Diane Smith-Bradley and William Bradley would be DBW.

For the last name that starts with Van Something you would use the letter "V" just like our friend Taylor Van Bruggen did on these adorable cupcake note cards.

I did receive a question on how to clean the stamps and tomorrow I will address that with some pictures too. Sometimes it's hard to answer without a visual to go with the description.

OK...onto today's projects that were pictured above. All of today's projects were created using the JustRite Stampers border set called From the Desk/Library/Kitchen Of. This set is so versatile when it comes to making personalized gifts for anyone. The only punches used on today's project were the 1 7/8" circle and 2 5/16" Scallop from The Paper Studio which is found at Hobby Lobby and they do come in small sizes which will also accommodate our Small Monogram Stamper.


I have given you a visual of top and bottom of the punches so that you can see how easy it is to line up your image. My only complaint is that these punches are a little hard to push and maybe they will get better the more I use them. But as far as sizing goes they are a perfect match to the JustRite Large Monogram Stamper and any of the JustRite stamper kits.

This layout was completely inspired by the beautiful card made by Laurie Schmidlin from the Stamper's Dream Design Team. I used the From the Desk Of border and included the monogram for Cris Sandra Mullins.

Next I used the From the Kitchen Of border and included Cris' name instead of her monogram. This card should look familar as the very taleneted Michelle Wooderson made these recipe cards during her Guest Blogger week here at JustRite Stampers.

The next project is a book marker that was made from a jumbo paper clip found in the office supplies at Walmart. The three letter monogram was added again. The clip was accessorized with some ribbon from Creative Impressions.

Recipe Cards

Sorry about the delayed post for today. Michelle had her's up before me because I accidentally deleted it. Yikes....human error. Sorry for the inconvenience and I am sure you are going to LOVE this set of recipe cards from Michelle. I loved them so much when she sent it to me that I already made a set for my mom. Bon Appetit!
Much to my delight, I was tickled when I saw that JustRite Stampers has a *from the kitchen of* stamp! You all know that I love to make my own recipe cards so this monogram stamp will get lots of use, I’m sure.



Today I created a simple 4" x 6" recipe card and used a wooden mount monogram stamper to assemble my monogram. I first inserted the *from the kitchen of* stamp into the wooden mount stamper. Then I picked out individual letters to spell *MISH* from the DIY Monogram Stamper Kit with the Curlz alphabet.


I was then ready to stamp! I stamped my image with red ink on white cardstock then cut, embossed and layered my stamped image with a Spellbinder’s Die Template. While I had my monogram all assembled, I went ahead and stamped several more so that I could keep them handy for future recipe cards. I added my monogram to my recipe card which is layered with the lined patterned paper and a horizontal strip of floral patterned paper. Voila, it was easy peasy.


I think the possibilities are endless with these personalized recipe card emblems. You can make up an entire set for yourself, make sets for gifts, or personalize a homemade recipe box. You could also add a stamped emblem to a homemade treat such as a giant brown packaged in a little box or a cute cellophane sack filled with homemade party mix. Or how about filling little canning jars with homemade dip mixes or jellies and attaching a monogram emblem to the top of the jar? My mind is just filling up with ideas! I can’t wait to use this stamp more!
